Digital Woodworking Tips and Tricks

For many years I’ve been developing and collecting various ideas, tips and techniques on how to work better, smarter, more efficiently and new ways to improve workflow using Digital Woodworking tools. The result is my personal collection of tips and tricks. I’m a bit obsessive about such things, so be prepared. It’s a big list. One even involves paper. Stay tuned!

CNC Mother of Pearl Inlays

Inlays present several challenges for digital woodworkers. CNCing them involves choices in speed, depth of cut, bit choices and offset strategies. Plywood Thickness Tester

There are a lot of great CNC projects that use plywood. From plywood furniture to shop projects, plywood is a great medium for CNC machining. The challenges are plywood thickness varies all over the map and getting a good fit, particularly on plywood joints is tricky. I’ve found that making a precision plywood thickness gauge solves both problems.

Testing the Shaper Origin

Recently, I spent time with the Shaper Tools Origin. It’s a hand-held CNC. At first glance it’s router that thinks it’s a CNC. Or, maybe the other way around. Either way you look at it, it really works. A remarkable tool, well executed with serious possibilities for creatives and room to grow and enhance for the developer . Woodworking.Digital YouTube Channel Open

At some point in this online world, you face the reality that you have to do videos. If for nothing more then to explain complex subject matter better. And so, for better or worse I started to post videos on YouTube. I do promise to get better. Really.

First up, is a review of a great small shop size CNC machine: The Laguna IQ. I’ve been putting this to work for a few weeks and have found it to be solid, accurate, spec’d well, nicely engineered and well built CNC.
