The complete set! Files to create a  Maker Workstation with a CNC. These are DXF files used for CNC machining a 72″ x 24″ Workstation Top, System Base, Accessories, and Furniture. Includes all three top layers and files to make Side Plate Holders, Side Plates, system base, and accessories. Other parts needed are in the Popular Woodworking feature article. Though the workstation is 72″ long, it has been designed to be machined on CNCs with at least 24″ working width using step-through techniques or with a Shaper Origin hand-held CNC.

Individual files are also available for the Maker Workstation 72″x24″ top, Workstation system base, and workstation accessories. This is a specially priced bundle for all three files.

Note that exported DXF files sometimes “unjoin” 2D object curves. Make sure you check and rejoin objects as necessary.

CNC programming information. All files assume Z touch off is on top. Adjust if you prefer to Z off the bottom.  Because these are layered files, additional CAM programming information outside of cutting all the way through the material is in the layer title. For example, The T-Nut countersunk layer indicates to cut .0625 deep or depth of the side plate mount pockets. Use a .250″ CNC mill or up-cut router bit, measure the bit you’ll use, program for it, and run tests of dog holes and plate mount pocket fit tests before you begin.

All files and plans are as is and come without instructions, CNC programming, or project support.

Maker Workstation Vise Module https://woodworking.digital/product/maker-workstation-vise-module/ https://woodworking.digital/product/maker-workstation-vise-module/#respond Wed, 26 May 2021 17:57:21 +0000 https://woodworking.digital/?post_type=product&p=2680 PDF Vise Module drawing for the Maker Workstation as featured in the June 2021 issue of Popular Woodworking. Use this drawing to make the Maker Workstation laminated plywood vise module.

The June 2021 issue of Popular Woodworking magazine features my article on the Maker Workstation.  This is a basic PDF format drawing of the Workstation Vise Module that is a component of the workstation. It’s a MWS side plate with a bottom-mounted Yost 9″ woodworking vise. Other 9″ single screw, twin-rail front vises that basically are a frame without vise chops will work, but free-standing metal vises are too big to mount on the side plates. Refer to the vise installation instructions for the size and location of through holes. To make the module you’ll need a blank 16″ x 3.5″ side plate and 3/4″ 13-ply Baltic Birch plywood for the vise chop. I suggest making two chops and laminating them together. It’s easy to build the vise chop add-on module using standard woodworking tools.

Maker Workstation 24×72 Layer Guide https://woodworking.digital/product/maker-workstation-24x72-layer-guide/ https://woodworking.digital/product/maker-workstation-24x72-layer-guide/#respond Sun, 02 May 2021 19:30:32 +0000 https://woodworking.digital/?post_type=product&p=2445 PDF Layer Guide for the 24" x 72" Maker Workstation as featured in the June 2021 issue of Popular Woodworking. Layer Guides show you where to drill Dog holes, holes for T-Nuts, and holes for the stacked risers that separate the middle and bottom layers. Use this guide and a Maker Workstation CNC-made template (drill guide or router offset version) to make the Maker Workstation stacked top.

The June 2021 issue of Popular Woodworking magazine features my article on the Maker Workstation.  This is a basic PDF format drawing Maker Workstation layer guide. All the dog holes require high accuracy and should be made using the Maker Workstation CNC-made templates. DXF template files are available in the woodworking.digital store. And, they are free!

With a CNC template, you need a Maker Workstation Layer Guide to keep you on track. This is the 72″ x 24″ Layer Guide. Other Layer Guides will be available soon. Later I’ll add 96 mm x 20 mm metric Layer Guides. Why use a guide? To keep track of where drill dog holes and T-Nuts are located. And, because drilling a grid of holes everywhere is a bad idea. More holes make your workbench less useful. Layer Guides offer optimal layouts for dog hole and T-Nut locations, leaving large open areas for workbenches of specific sizes. If a project comes up where you need more holes or a different layout, best to create Maker Workstation Top Plates (using the free CNC template for Top Plates/Worx Sidekicks) and workstation furniture. Remember the design principle: less is more.
