To machine the Maker Workstation as featured in the June 2021 issue of Popular Woodworking you will also need CAD drawings for the Top, Base, and Accessories.

The June 2021 issue of Popular Woodworking magazine features my article on the Maker Workstation.  This is a DXF file to CNC machine a dedicated spoil board for the Shapeoko XL CNC that aligns and registers Maker Workstation layers or templates. With the spoil board, you can machine the full 24″ x 72″ workstation or any other 24″ or so wide project that requires repositioning. It can also be used to make the 30-3/8″ x 66″ base. It requires an XL and a .250″ bit. Measure your bits and adjust your CAM settings before machining. if you have the large XXL, adjust dimensions and add extra registration holes as needed. Also required are two 1″ x 1/4″ steel registration pins to realign the jig to the Shapeoko’s bed.

This file is in DXF format. Notes for what needs to be done are in the file.

A 1/4″  bit is needed to CNC the spoil board. Precision is important when machining these templates. Dog hole size is critical. Make sure you measure your bits before machining. Most .250″ bits are actually .242″-.245″. Adjust accordingly when programming a CNC.

See the print issue or popularwoodworking.com for more project information and step-by-step articles to help you build the project.

My request back at you: If you build a Maker Workstation, I’d like to see it. I’d appreciate it if you send a photo and if you post it on social media, tag @woodworking.digital on Instagram and use the hashtag #makerworkstation.
